manila fine vinyls is the label project created by edo arengi (shadow sync) back in 2010 to bring out that soulful side of techno we all love. unlike some freaks you can hear around nowadays, the manila fine vinyls productions have their roots in the original detroit sound: no frills, no virtual mockeries, just the full and deep analog sound that goes straight to your heart. music is a matter of substance, not of decorations! this second release includes two brand new tunes produced at the barricade, edos studio located in the heart of berlin. more feelings, with its electric piano chords and the moog bass line, is a well balanced blend of a fat groove and sweet azmospheres. techno with a little touch romanticism! i want to believe, a deeper tune built around a powerful, hypnotising sh-101 line with a delightful slide, is opened by touching string chords and grows as the various percussive elements are added creating a thicker rhythmic texture. its unsophisticated music, its the original spirit of techno.

it took a while but we finally got this great remix ep together from catz n dogz escape from zoo album. tanner ross flexes his e-funk biceps and shows us that just a little bit goes a long way with huge bass and sparse vox. this remix goes against the grain the right way, showing restraint and power at the same time. the main man of detroit, carl craig also delivers a sparse and beautiful mix, 1st giving us a lesson in how to properly tweak the space echo and then bringing it back with classic strings and subs. both mixes are getting major support from all across the globe from sebo k to troy pierce to ewan pearson to martyn to l-vis 1990 to james zabiela - overall probably the best feedback we had in a while on a record to be honest.. all great for our kids at the detroit youth foundation where the mothership label donates 100% of profits! also, special thanks to matt colton at air studios, london for donating a mastering session for free to cut this record and support our school.

the word genius is not a term we like to use loosely when speaking about our artists but giorgio sancristoforo aka tobor experiment fits the bill. a gifted musician, soft synth designer, found sound pioneer and he still finds time to make forward thinking disco pop for bearfunk as tobor experiment >disco experience<.
after a well received ep in 2008 we sent giorgio back to the studio with the remit to make an lp so special that it could open new doors for us. well he certainly delivered! opening with the sweet modern disco sounds of >postcards from a nervous breakdown< we then get the first taste of giorgios song writing prowess with >breathe< a rather intense little number.

you might not be aware of this artist or lp… but thats all about to change. this is the holy grail of cosmic disco… that disco kids dont even know yet. released in 1978 on little known inter global records, this lp is one of the most in demand, expensive & undiscovered albums of this genre. just check discogs! not much is known about the group, where their from or what they went on to do, but that doesnt stop every track on this album being a bonafide killer. arguably the albums highlight is jamaica electric, but unlike most cosmic disco lps where there is just one main track, every outing on this lp is unique and of the highest quality. cosmic, mind bending disco at its finest… sounding so fresh it couldve been made by prins thomas or lindstrom this year.

for cadenzas latest output, the imprint serve up something a little different from usual with a versus ep from two astonishingly contrasting yet equally prominent artists within electronic music. no remixes or reinterpretations are to be seen but instead, a meeting of minds between mirko loko and stacey pullen with deux elements. titled in fitting reflection of the combination of swiss born mirko loko and detroit innovator stacey pullen, this two track cut is as its name projects in all musical and conceptual aspects. whilst mirko loko is by no means new to cadenza after releasing his highly praised seventynine album on the label in 2009, stacey pullen is a fresh cadenza artist that the label couldnt be more excited to have aboard…this is >deux elements< the eps first piece is >formulaic mode<, a twisted combination of chaotic clicks merged with underlying melodies and a serene ambience of calm.

following the legendary first two, stoically super minimal records >sog 1< and >sog 2< that provide ecstasy disguised as boredom on kompakt extra/speicher in 2007, and the outstanding beautifully bizarre >sog - abweichung< on profan in 2010, we are now listening to >fremde hÄnde<. like its predecessors, this sog stands in the tradition of >the art of omission< with wolfgang voigt variegating his preference for the bluntly straightforward quaver bass in two different forms. the a-side contains a tonally noncommittal sequence ambling across the keyboard in quantised form, reminiscing of the arpeggiator (accompaniment function) function of early 70ies and 80ies synthesizers. on the b-side, daring and thoroughly unquantised quaver rhythms rock around a bass drum that, as the only straight element, tries to keep the whole thing together. the result sounds a little like a delirious can live.

pattern select aka milton jackson and show-b have gone well and truly back to the raw on this, their first collaborative work together and debut ep for delusions of grandeur. both producers have been busy on some top quality projects just recently with milton jackson remixing recloose for planet e and show b producing for robert owens on compost. the pair met at a party in munich, promptly fell in love, and soon enough pattern select was born. kicking off tale of the tape sees the pair go deep n dark on this low-slung groove where demonic laughter rides the driving hats and insesant crashes until the filtering arpeggiated synth line joins the fun. tale of the dub gives us a stripped back, dub-infused version which goes a little lighter on the craziness of the first version but without losing any of the deep, hypnotic funk.

true to form, souvenir are back with a snappy summertime release perfectly hinged & ready for sweeping the dancefloors. souvenir 036 various artists features lewis boardman & maher daniel blending their sounds, and converging on this ep for some magnificent effects. the a side starts out with daniel - he is a new, but solid name amongst the techno-gambit, having released on labels such as get physical & bedrock, as well as on souvenir. while his remix workings of >rumblefish< earned him a 2 1/2 month long-spot as number one on the techno charts. with >here and now< with dark, driving techno that sounds like its been made inside of a blazing house-fire. burning & singed, the the layers fall heavy upon one another - with a penetrating dancefloor deep-ness to the bass. next up, >icaros< on the inside a track…spins a dark & deep nighttime soundscape, deep into the depths of a jungle somewhere. a distant & hollow vocal of a tribesman hums hauntingly in the distance, with a severe & driving bassline to make you run like a scared little raver deep into the jungle. on the b side, boardman takes over, one of the uks newest talents - recently remixing for nina kraviz & yousef - with >tranquilizer,< on b2 is quite a minimal retreat…with some intergalactic space-fight sounds thrown into the mix, alongside the rolling bass, and chug-chugging. b2 enters the title track, >the broken is beautiful.< a nice, chugging bass-line meets a ethereal chopped up vocal, carefully flowing in & out of the bass-line….to meet up strong midway thru the breakdown

and here it is: the second vinyl ep of niko schwinds album >good morning midnight<. it features some of the unique tracks that niko has created together with some of berlins hottest production talents. on the a side are two tracks that feature the clicky tech-house boys that are channel x, where things kick off with >back from the bar<. it sounds as the title suggests: a little wobbly, a little drunk, a little crazy, but also pretty magic. quite clearly this is an homage to one of berlins not-to-be-forgotten clubs that is unfortunately history now. but things continue on here at least with >dont turn the lights on<, a more straightforward dancefloor track, with a trumpet as the main protagonist. this is one of those tracks that keeps leading up to a real arms-in-the-air-moment if it wasn’t so damn housy at the same time. on the flip the magical connection between niko and label daddy oliver koletzki can be heard on >master of ceremony<, a chopped-up house track with epic dimensions. when things get to the piano breakdown, they get very musical and colossal before dropping back into a great house track. the stark contrast between the piano melody and the groove on this really make it. last but not least then, the original album opener >good morning< that features the singing of fran. it works great as a great album opener, but also perfectly as a slower and more thoughtful addition to a great ep

supported by richie hawtin, monika kruse, mihalis safras, kombinat100 and many more ....crunchy beats and bouncy basses – no doubt, this is electronic dance music. but the extensive way in which classical instruments are deployed on acker number 23 cant be described as a simple sampling play any more. rather a fiery mixture of rhythmic electronic thrust and the thrilling atmosphere of handmade music is created. >solo para mi< is based on a functional yet driving groove on which a wind player arrangement unfolds, progressively escalating to ever new atmospheric peaks. mollono.bass takes up the summery-warm tone colours of the original in his remix but keeps it a little more dreamy and subliminal. >bulgarian chicks< is stronger orientated towards the electronic elements but still also here there are instrumental and vocal entries which lend to this title a very unconventional gipsy style. finally another remix on >solo para mi< by eule:nhaupt and molle:nhauer puts emphasis on the song-orientated components of the original, taking its hybrid character even further. supported by gorge, douglas greed, luciano, mihalis safras, the glitz, kombinat100 and many more

black gold also contains a rendition of sandy denny s who knows where the time goes, in a minimalist arrangement that ends in an uplifting orchestration true to both the writer of the song and the performer. throughout the entire performance ms simone keeps a regal, aloof and sometimes goofy composure, her monologues in between songs ushering the listener a little closer to her moving performance.

its an exciting time for idle hands, as the fledgling label mutates into a many headed musical beast. after the bristol record shop rooted records sold its last chunk of wax late last year, idle boss chris farrell has carried the torch and opened the idle hands store on stokes croft in bristol city centre. just as the shop highlights idle hands dedication to its hometown, this latest release on the label marks the first time the music has come from outside the city limits. szare will probably not be a name familiar to many, having covertly established himself on the lauded horizontal ground label, basking in the stamped white label anonymity of deep, troublesome 4/4. now with this release and his syndrom z label, the producer steps just a little into the light to expose his unique abstractions on swung techno. >volya< ploughs a sparse and percussive furrow, while >action five< boasts a wistful, dreamlike melodic bent to leave you with two distinctly different, but equally enthralling cuts.

new vocal 12 inch on wph....tip! it should be obvious by now that we here at the wph camp are keen on real vocals. so while the rest of the world is busy sampling and recycling vocals from the past, leave it up to us to pick out those tracks that feature fresh and home made vocals. although wph 012 by dj yellow also indulges in a little bit of recycling, or rather good old fashioned licensing. the title track >night in tranzylvania< has been a huge favourite with label boss red d and his belgian crowd ever since it was released on the criminally overlooked album >intermission< on project recordings in 2008. but now it is back in all its glory and supported by >angels part< a killer ambient track which also featured on that album album, >je tm<, a new track by dj yellow and a russ gabriel remix of the title track.

the croatian wonderboy tristy nesh is back on absolut freak records, with the famous elektro frau xenia beliayeva. they had already met on the >little hip molecular ep< (af05), with a successful remix by beliayeva. now they come together with >acting sane<, a sweet electro excursion through dusty fields. john lord fonda, the french sensation from vitalics label citizen records, is also back on absolut freak after having done the very first remix on af01. this time, he gives a new huge remix, with even more melancholy and an amazing break. just brilliant! then, the latvian producer max brannslokker (author of some masterpieces such as the incredible >lust< on salto recordings, or >transition< on boxon records) delivers a great funky-beat version with his special jazzy vibe. back side, nicolas chenard comes again with a powerful techno sound on a smashing remix. at last, tristy nesh offers a new demonstration of his unique dirty loud sound with >turkish bass<, a dancefloor killer with no concession. vinyl lovers can enjoy the artwork by falk klemm from the zonders with a pantone color on the cover. already supported by david carretta, donovans, da fresh, teenage mutants...

yam who?s ism label come through with a four track slice of disco centric futurism, featuring the man yam himself alongside pbr streetgang and ron basejam. its the latter who takes the lead with a remix of alenas >changes< that sees her sultry vocal teased by a most excellent of analogue synth leads that splurges brilliantly across the crisp mid tempo chug. yam who? teams up with vocalist natasha watts for the similarly bottom heavy bump of >i m in love< which has a certain warehouse appeal to it. on the flip, pbr pay respect to the godfather of soul james brown with the gritty flex of >j2thab< with the sadly departed mr brown strangely sounding at times like he wants to go to tesco. we always took him for a waitrose man, but regardless this is probably the track you will reach for most! finally brothers young do their thing to a trammps classic, with little more than the bassline retained.

who am i? thats what ruede hagelstein asks himself when he looks at the reflection in the mirror every morning when he gets up. then the image goes into the studio and produces tracks for upon you for him. the first one sings >give a little slap to your soul< darkly and romanticly at a relaxed 120 bpm into the mike and has taken up lodgings on a1 of our uy 047. the second plays piano, even if just paraphrased. the b1 beat requires a slightly faster dancer that a1. then the third member of the group on b2 with a quite definitive minimal touch, sounds a bit like peter and the wolf at the lsd opera … hop hop off you go then my lovelies.

a little quiet so far this year but now one of the new power generation drum & bass production crews are back with an absolutely sick two part ep that is anything but quiet. michael willer and robert stefan aka body & soul have been busy, very busy creating what is undoubtedly their most explosive release to date on their own nasca records. get ready for a great big bag of awesome!
part 1 lets rip with the title track >shipwrecked<, with an ominous intro it sets the scene perfectly for whats to come with an outrageously horrid bass that snarls and pulls at its lead, snapping at anything that comes close. you d better start running though because when that lead breaks its gonna get you! add a nasty vox and the package is complete. demolition drum and bass that’s ready to take out the whole club!

so it was a massive pleasure that maya chose 2020vision for her next full single release. when we discussed the project with her we agreed it was vital to put together a single that truly reflected her diverse tastes and skills. the title track >focus now< is a unique work that will be hard to even categorise. reminiscent of early matthew jonson records >focus now< features delicate synth sequences weaving in and out of intricate rhythms. it sounds amazing on big systems, like at fabric, where it was road tested by ralph lawson at the recent 2020vision party. it is one to drop at the right time to make a real change in mood and set direction. we then have >little one< which is a solid deep house groove, simple but effective. vocal snippets are added by mjc herself on both tracks but her true vocal talents are shown on >senseless<...

after taking a break for more than 6 months bukaddor & fishbeck return with 2 quality tracks. >camino< unites tight and loose aspects in an exciting modern way of club music. the track works on more than one level and incorporates silly little ghosts of sounds and massive basslines and last but not least: a lot of profound sound shaping. >physx< on the b-side is much more warped, moves in way of a snake, does is surreal dreamlike and still makes these brave cuts that throw you back into life. at times this track seems to be quite dadaistic and maybe this accounts for the most experimentell track they have ever released... but it would not bukaddor & fishbeack if this track did not have a atchy clubby side to it.
